VRTool version 2.0 release

Postby omar » Fri Mar 09, 2012 1:57 pm

Version 2.0 of vrtool is available for download. Version changes:

 Desktop wizard - The desktop wizard will guide you when creating a desktop for a new regatta leg. It will help choose data files (chart, polars and winds) and configure many of the options to Virtual Regatta, VORG 12 or real world regattas. This will hopefully ease the pain and frustration that many have expressed while trying to configure the program.

To start the Desktop config wizard, use menu option File > Config wizard

 Transparency in the program main window - You may use this to fit vrtool chart over the game chart or zezo chart, to compare routes. To change transparency, use trackbar in the Global Config panel.

 VORG 11-12 support in the Firefox module (boat data only)

It is recommended that you use the full software installer, even if upgrading.

Importing data from Firefox cache (all FF versions):

Do once:
 Download Firefox plugin httpFox (use FF plugin manager for that)

Do every time you restart Firefox and vrtool:
 In FF, use key combination Shift-F2 to open httpFox panel. Click [> Start] button to activate httpFox.
(Firefox will only save cache files to disk if httpFox is activated). You may close httpFox panel, but keep it activated.
 In vrtool, use Ctrl-I to configure and activate [x]automatic updates

tips:
- The data import only works for Firefox (neither Chrome, Safari or IE supported)
- For Virtual Regatta you can import game boat data and winds. For VORG 12, only boat data,
so use either NOAA or vrtoutoulz winds.
- For VORG 12 the first boat data will be available only 10 minutes after the game load. So wait.

I have updated the tutorial in http://www.tecepe.com.br/nav/vrtool/offline/tutorialFCI.htm

I´m getting pretty close to get my VrTool correctly installed, (thanks to the conf.wizard :) ) However, can´t get winds downlouded. I´m having windows 7 installed in my mac. When trying restart HTTPFF by pressing Shift+F2, The command doesn´t work. I wonder what would be the combination in Mac?

I don't think it will work if you are using Firefox inside the Mac OS session.
If you are running firefox inside the Windows session it should be Shift-F2 (not sure how this works in the Mac).
If it doesn't, you may access and configure httpFox from the Firefox menu
options: Firefox > Web Developer > HttpFox

Note that you can use game winds only in VR races. For VORG you have to use NOAA winds
(which are imported directly from NOAA server, not from Firefox cache).

G'Day All I have just bought a Mac which I run windows XP inside. To get VRtools to work I use Firefox version 3.6 and all works perfectly. On the old PC to get the wind update from pacotool I would press F2 on the Mac keyboard I now have to press Fn+F2
Mac Mini Dual core running Snow Leopard
Parrallels installed to run windows XP
Also Set up Bootcamp running windows Xp on the same Mac....Bootcamp runs Windows much faster than Parrallels

Thanks Bilbo for the Mac tips :geek:

One comment: If using Firefox 3.6, you don't need httpFox (AFAIK).
You can use Firefox 11 with vrtool ( you don't want to be stuck to FF 3.6 forever  )
In this case, you need to install httpFox and activate it.

Re: VRTool version 2.0 release _ it doesn't work!

Postby Gjnko » Fri Mar 30, 2012 9:49 pm

sorry Omar, but all attempts to load winds and boats files are unsuccessful . I use Vista, i downloaded the full version 2.0 and installed. so , for the the fox plug-in. In the imporrt wizard, it all appears to be as in the tutorial and it looks also the same. but:
a) when i activate the Conf.FF wizard for the boat upload, it stacks without any change at all ("no file found" is the only message, if I click on "scan cache" box ) and after a while an unstoppable serie of error message windows "Regatta host empty" appears on my screen , so I have to close Vrtoll at all;
b) if I try to upload the winds by the NoAA wizard, the dos windows tell me that the download is interrupted... and after a while, the errore messages as above appear.....
I reinstalled 3 times the version 2; i cancelled all the previously created .nav file, but the problems are the same
It's a pity it does'nt works: I was fond of the version 1.04 it worked perfectly. so I made a donation also for this new version, but......

again, I can not upload boats and wind data: i was successul to import only a static situation of my boats and friends; .ma no way to import winds: always an error message appears ("06:00 is not a valid time") and so on even i change inoutsetting to all the other times 04-10-16-22:00;
and again, when I try to upload data with the automatic update refresh box checked , a un stoppable serie of error messages ("regatta host data empty") force me to switch off the progrsmme
Anyonecan help me? tks
