Volvo Ocean race Wind in Prologue

Postby pceribelli » Fri Sep 19, 2014 6:58 am

Dear sirs, can you help me to resolve why when import wind with Ctrl+I I see no correct wind in the map.
For example the right wind is 18.1 and the wind imported is 21.7.
I use vrtool 2.26 Firefox 32.0.2 And HttpFox 0.8.14
I have delete all fin in temp directory C:\Users\Pietro\AppData\Local\Temp\
If you want see problem http://tinyurl.com/maznygw
Thanks

Hi Pietro

In your example the game wind speed at the boat is 18.1 knots; in VRTool it is 18.2 knots, which is pretty good.

The wind speed of 24.8 knots on the chart is at a grib point, not at the boat position. The wind speed at your boat position is interpolated from the four surrounding grib points - in your case 14.6, 24,8, 17.3 and 15.1 knots interpolate to 18.2 knots at your boat position.

You could go to the "Winds" tab and un-tick the box "show wind arrow boundaries". With interpolated wind there are no wind boundaries because the wind varies everywhere. So colouring the grid is a bit confusing. Forget all you have read about grid boundaries!

What I can't explain is why VRTool is showing a wind direction of 180 deg at your boat. It should be 196 or 197 degrees. I suggest you go to the "Wind Interpolation" tab and check it is set correctly:

[X] Use Windcube
In time: [X] previous
In position: [X] bilinear

Dear Mclean, thanks for you replay, but I hope that my request are not understood.
I use vrtool from along time and use it to understand a good tactician. in the last Clipper 13-14 when import information with Ctrl+I in Vrtool I see the same wind information that are reported in the browser (wind, direction, intensity).
If you see this new link: http://tinyurl.com/p2q5jol the wind reported it's not correct. Virtualregatta web site retort 12.1 Kts dir. 184.2° in Vrtool I see 13.0Kts 199°. You are the possibility from screen shoot link to see that all data are imported correctly but the wind are displayed in wrong way.
I try to setup the setting that you have send me but noting change.
I will ask you if this problem can depend from the new release of virtualregatta site.
My best regards
Pietro

As far as I remember, that HttpFox import module (Ctrl-I) is now obsolete.

The method to import boat data from Virtual Regatta is:
1- Use HttpFox to find out the URL used by the game app to download boat data.
It is the one that looks like this:
/ServiceCaller.php?service=GetUser&id_user=<userId>&...&checksum=..
2- Copy-paste the full URL (including http:// and checksum) to the GetUser field in vrtool
3- Activate [x]Auto update and [x] Update friends too

This will activate 10 min imports directly from VR server.

For winds, use NOAA or vrtoutoulz

Ciao Omar thanks for your replay.
I will confirm that in boat data --> Get user I have set http://vor0.virtualregatta.com/core/Ser ... 2XXXXX..... and it work correctly, the data is ok and correctly report in vrtool map.
The problem is for the real time wind. In the past when Use CTRL+I I have the same wind visualized on the browser reported in the vrtool maps. Now if you see the screen shoot attached in past post I have a different wind speed and direction.
The NOAA and Vrtoutoulz work correctly, but ths is for prevision and don't give the actual wind.
The vrtoutoulz.fr if I put in regatta settings and use F2 create a file in wind grid with the name metoeo -10 40.xml that have the same value of plugin-meteo_20140922115831_xxxxx imported from CTRL+I. with a wrong value.
This type of problem in the clipper 13-14 I don't have.
You think that the same visualization of the wind in the browser and in vrtool program can be resolved?
Regards
Pietro

When the regatta uses interpolated winds, the wind at a
given position will only match the arrow speed value
if that position is on the arrow center. Otherwise
wind speed is influenced by the 4 surrounding arrows.

There is a difference in the method of interpolation
used by vrtool and VR, but this is not what you show
in your screenshot.

Tip: To see the current wind on your position,
1) Activate interpolation, as explained by mclean
2) locate your boat track (TR_boatname) and select it
3) activate [x]show wind.

This will plot a wind arrow at your position, with the interpolated
wind TWS/TWD values. It helps to compare with game winds.

Dear Omar you have found a solution at this big problem? Sorry but 11/10 star the race and if vrtool that work correctly and efficiently it's very difficult try to race with the big of virtualregatta.
If the program don't show the imported real-time wind from the game, all Track tools give no correct information's and it's not possible define the strategy.
My regards and help us
