Import polar data in multisail format (XML)

Postby omar » Thu Feb 14, 2013 11:39 am

Polar data can be imported to vrtool format from VirtualRegatta
using a wizard in Polar Studio.

1) Using httpFox, save all files named vpp_1_*.csv to a new local folder.
There is one for each sail, numbered 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64.
2) in vrtool main menu, select >View > Polar Studio
3) In Polar Studio select > File >New Polars
4) select: >File > import VPPs
5) Locate the VPP folder where you saved files in step 1.
Click Ctrl-A to select all VPP files at once.
Sails will be imported to the Studio.
6) Fix the icon index for each sail, according to the table:

Sail = icon index
Genoa or Solent= 0
Jib or Trinquette = 1
Code Zero = 2
Light Spi or Gennaker = 3
Heavy Spi or Gennaker = 4

 Remember to click [Apply] after you edit each icon index .
If you are without optional sails, delete sails you don't have.

7) Save the polar file, named as polarsRegattaName.XML
8) Back to vrtool, select the new file and click load

tricky..

Hi Omar, In between races I have been trying to Import polar data in multisail format but after several days of trying I can't seem to get anything to work. I can locate all the VPP files in Httpfox ok. but trying to save them to a folder I have trouble. Could you please elaborate a little further on the process of saving the Vpp files from httpfox to another folder

- Use httpFox to get the VPP file location (URL). Right click the URL and copy to clipboard.
- Paste URL in Firefox address bar. Press [Enter]
- Click the Firefox button then Save Page As..
- Repeat the process until you have all VPPs in a single folder
- in polar studio Select all VPPs at once to import

another way to go is to copy-paste file contents from httpFox content panel.

Hi Omar, well I managed to get a polar , I used the Vpp files from the new St Patrick Race. I am not sure if it is correct but time will tell. I had no trouble to import the Vpp files into Polar Studio but after that it was hit and miss as some of the instructions didn't relate in Polar Studio,I ended up using export to simplified.....There are many items in the Polar Studio I was not sure of. Is there any instructions that come with Polar Studio........Very Tricky

Thanks Omar,
As I only have the standard sails for the Stpatrick Race, I created a Classical Polar as I wanted to use the Weather Routing. I didn't realize that the Multisail Format was .xml and the Simple Format was .csv.
I found in Httfox by typing VPP in the search box Httpfox locates all the Vpp files for you. Everything works perfectly even the Weather Routing. .......
