South Atlantic routing

Postby GrandSteph » Fri Jan 11, 2013 1:51 pm

Is that me or the routing does a poor job when going upwind. I'm always able to draw manually a track that beats the routing calculation.

I've the same problem...

My polars file is vendeeglobevirtuel_pro-full.csv

Is that correct?

Obrigado e um abraço, Omar

Now it's ok. Hi have de correct polar file with multiple sails.

Thanks Omar, one more time.

Not ok

The WR algorithm uses the polar chart TWA vertices to generate the track tree.
The "classique polar" format has vertices each 5 degrees
of TWA (2 degrees in close hauled area). This works nicely for the WR calculation.

The "full" polar format file has one line for each degree.
Branching is too detailed. You end up covering a smaller
range of TWAs with the same routing tree size.

In short: Use the simpler "classique" polar.

Hi Omar,

I'm fan of the weather routing...but just find out and "understood" why sometimes the best tracks are lost.
In current situation (end of VendeeGlobe) the route has to make a 90° angle to pass cap finistere. In that circumstances, the action of prunning angle is to remove routes that are away from direct one (and very good ones).
On top of that, the Nb of tracks is sometimes so reduced that you have only one way.... Portugal beach. 8-) - game over.

No idea (yet) to share on the way to improve...

Thanks Omar. That explains why the router was always favoring the shortest route. which had helped me a lot in south pacific but kinda hit me around the Acores... I wish I had known before

Thank you for your hard work Omar. I just spent, like 4 years ago, 80 days playing this game with great pleasure. Your software really helped me take decisions and added a lot of fun to the game. So I will reward you like you should be after all your efforts. I will, right away, give a contribution to your website.

Dont thank me. You are the one putting the effort and sharing it with little hopes of return.
