Auto-Config Files

Postby Sparepresto » Sat Jun 18, 2011 5:33 pm

Hello Omar, sailors,

The configuration of VR Tool is a returning problem.
Map to load, winds to import, cache-reading, what more ...

What a pleasure it would be to choose a race and SAIL !
Would it be an idea to create a kind of conguration-utility that reads a config-file and everything is set?
If 1 person in the world woudl be willing to create the config-file we are all ready to SAIL !

That would be a pleasure.
And the KILLER-Utility for VR Tool.

The desktop file (*.nav) is supposed to contain
all the config necessary. But "rigging" a desktop is difficult.

One idea I had was to setup step-by-step wizard,
assisting the load of a new race, including:

1) Polar database
2) Wind grids
3) Vector Chart

This wizard should be able to download the files.
All difficult parameters should go away.

In the same vein, the feature I miss the most is the ability to load a nav given as parameter of the command line. By the way it'd make possible to "associate" .nav with VRTool and launch the EXE by double clicking the nav file.
