difficulty drawing routes and tracks

Postby FS Neroform 100 » Mon Nov 18, 2013 8:57 pm

Hi Omar
I have some difficulties drawing routes and tracks ........ whenever I'm using "shift" to get the exact direction of a line, then my boatie does not follow this line but keeps about 0,5° south of the line I have been drawing.
I'm using version 2.13 and I have "integer courses" in the line snap mode.
Is there a problem ? ...... or what am I doing wrong ?

To draw exact routes I have to proceed as follows: i.e. direction 87° - I have to draw a line at 86,5° and another at 87,5° - the line in the middle of these two lines will be exactly 87° and my boatie follows this route exactly ......... possible but quite a waste of time ........ so, if you could tell me what I'm doing wrong this would be a big help - thanks in advance

updated to 2.26 - the problem remains the same when drawing a route over the track of my boatie

The Shift-draw function is controlled by option "Line Snap mode"
in tab >Other > Global Settings
You are probably snapping to integer values of the course

As I said: I have "integer courses" in the line snap mode .........

below a picture with the three possibilities cardinal direction, polar vertices and integer courses ......... so why is there a difference between the route the boaties are really taking and the route drawn with the shift-draw function and choosen integer courses ?

On the interface the boaties should have integer courses - therefore the drawn route made with shift-draw function and integer courses should match the route the boaties are taking .......... or am I completely wrong ?

Hi Omar .......... sorry if I'm hassling you again with my question ! But it's not only on my behalf - it's on the behalf of the community of virtual sailors and the users of VRTools ............
Before the arrival of leg 3 of the clipper we had to go around a half-island and several very good sailors did go on ground there (not me as I knew about the difference between the route I'm drawing and the one the boatie is taking). On the French Forum we are discussing this now and we can't explain it ........

Below a picture of curiosity2 - boatie of Yannick whom you might know as "kermit" ....... he's a very good sailor ......... and right beside him Fioninette went on ground also, she was even closer to passing .... Fioninette is the wife of the Didier the Grand DIC and also one of the very good sailors.

Naturally they both might have made a mistake, but I don't think so ....... they're just too good for that !

Other sailors like Bruno (Valm2) never have a problem, the boaties are following the routes - but Bruno is making the routes in Pacotool and afterwards does import the routes into VRTools .........

so ........... it would be a big help if you could give us an explanation for this differences - thanks a lot
Ueli
