VR Tool and Firefox 4 (upgrade problem)

Postby Brindosier » Fri Mar 04, 2011 1:45 pm

Hello everybody,
sorry for my bad English. Just an information.,I've tried to use Firefox 4 beta version and i'd like to say that VR tool doesn't work whith that version. I'think that something has been changed with Firefox cache. Have a good day.

Yeah.. It seems that it doesn't work with FF4.
No files found :(

If you upgrade to FF4, you loose vrtool Firefox import feature

Hi,
The way to deal with cached files has changed in Firefox4.
Yet, if you run the extension Httpfox, you will get all the VR files in the folder where they were stored by Firefox version 3.x .
The drawback with that workaround is that you will accumulate files at each time Httpfox gets files from VR.

Yes. Photophore is right. :ugeek:
If you install HttpFox plugin and activate it,
FF4 saves the files in the same place as FF3.

Hi there.

I have the same problem with the upgrede to Firefox4.
With the extension Httpfox I get the weather info into VRTools without no problem, but the boatinfo can not be found?
The plugin-ServiceCaller.php? in the boat data file does not work any longer.
Any suggestion how to solve this problem?

Regards, Stormy Weather

There is no question that FF4 cache has changed. Cache directories are still created
but there is nothing inside

Still, user Photophore (our cache expert :ugeek: ) found a workaround that seems to work.

1- In Firefox, download and install HttpFox plug-in.
2- Open the HttpFox by clicking the small icon in the bottom right of Firefox window.
3- Activate HttpFox by clicking the [>]Start button. You may close HttpFox panel,
but keep it activated. This makes FF4 behave the way FF3 did, saving the cache
files to the plugtmp directories.

Yes this works - but only the first time the cache is filled... I had the same problem as Stormy Weather (no boatinfo). I deleted all plugtmp directories by hand and reloded the game. Then erything (wind and boatinfo) was loaded in VRtool. Since then I delete all the stuff in the new plugtmp directoty everytime before I import the data to VRtool... cheers tschelli

Problem with this method is that you have to do this over and over every 10 minutes (whenever the game reboots)!!!! If you don't do it then VR will not update boats position!!!!!Anyone have any idea how to fix it?

I tested the thing with FF4 and Windows 7.
I found that the Photophore workaround works fine (i.e. install HttpFox and activate it)
You can even set httpFox to start as default (in HttpFox options).

Still, there is one more change in the way boat data files show in the FF4 cache.

While with FF3, the boat data files are "plugin-ServiceCaller-1.php" / "plugin-ServiceCaller-3.php"
in FF4 they appear with larger and changing numbers
(like "plugin-ServiceCaller-77.php", "plugin-ServiceCaller-45.php" etc).
So the default boat data file mask "plugin-ServiceCaller-?.php" won't work.

In short: Change the file mask to "plugin-ServiceCaller-*.php"
( use star instead of the question mark)

This should work until the next change comes

Note: Because of this change, sometimes an old file gets loaded
and the boat bounces back. I'll correct that soon.
