Lake Leman's Map

Postby Ricoo » Mon Jun 07, 2010 4:29 pm

Hi all,
I've updated my site with a map of the Leman (or Gevena) lake for the Bol D'Or.
I used the highest available gshhs data. I think it will a bit less accurate than the MP map, but I hope it'll be precise enough.
If ever you find better data, please let me know.

And by the way Omar, do you think of a version of VRTool that can handle so many wind changes (every hour if I believe the mail from MP) ?
This is a hard work, maybe. :(

nice work

vrtool will probably show scale problems. For one,
the lake is only 30 NM across and vrtool boats are 6 NM long.
So you have to hide the boats one-by-one.

not sure about the winds. In theory it should work,
but since it was not tested in such small scale,
probably will not work
( programmer wisdom: if it was not tested, then it is buggy )

and the thing starts on jun 11th,
the very day the World Cup begins...
We are closed already

P.S. I missed one thing in the chart:
where is that new particle collider?

A particle collider ?

Now that we a have a trial access to this race, I can tell my maps are completely shifted on the west.
Well, in fact, I believe MP's is shifted to the east, but since they make the rules, I will have to shift mine as well. Well... maybe tomorrow...who knows ?

You're right about the boats, they are a bit oversized, but I'm used to hide all but mine and one or two friends, so, it's OK.

The winds load and show, but must be sized down almost at minimum to be OK.
The very problem is that the forcecast selector only proposes 12, 24, ... and not 1, 2, 3, ... and that the track drawing tool is almost unusable because the winds changes only apply twice a day.

But Omar, don't change anything, it's only a race of a few hours and we are not sure that such an experiment will occur again. So, forget all this. Well, it is only my feeling, of course, you'll do as you want.

Me again, this post doesn't have much success. Never mind
Anyway, the last map I provided still don't match perfectely. MP's is so completely wrong. If I shift it with a constant value along all latitudes/longitudes, I can match a piece, like the south-ouest, but then, the north-est doesnt, I guess they applied some kind of projection, I'll try to find a way to get rid of this inconvenient before saturday, but I'm not sure I'll be ready.
Stay aware and check my site saturday morning if you are interested in this map. ;)

Ok Ricoo...
I was looking at this and there are a couple issues
with small 0.02deg/1h wind grids.
Bugs walking all around.

Expect a risky beta release today ( after bafana-bafana game ;) )

Wahhh, great job if you did all this.
I won't do the race this weekend, maybe the next leg.
Anyway, I draw this ultimate map, and it's now available on my site.
Enjoy it.

Hi, both of you are crazy !

It's far too much work for a race that might never end and not even start properly !

Anyway, I love what you guys do for all the virtual sailors, thanks.

You're right, but the best paradox, is that I'm sure that MP don't appreciate everything we do (including Paco, Cvetan, etc) but they would have fewer customers if we didn't. ;)

I just posted version 1.91.
This is a preliminary release w/ some corrections for Lake Leman regatta.
Keep previous version of vrtool for other regattas.

- go to folder \program files\vrtool\
- terminate vrtool, if running
- download http://www.tecepe.com.br/nav/vrtool/vrtool.zip and save
- Backup previous vrtool.exe
- Unzip vrtool.zip

Corrections:
- fixed wind forecast buttons (1h interval)
- Track designer with 1h marks
- Weather routing is not working. Tried to fix, but there was no time

good luck
